Drop-In Story Time, 12/14/12 (Holiday Theme)

I feel such an obligation to offer a holiday story time, but I don't think this group cared one way or the other. The only things that went over really well were The Christmas Alphabet, which I sang with the help of some signs mounted on construction paper, and We Wish You... (where we wished everyone a merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, joyous Kwanzaa and a happy new year.)

I had different plans for the end of the session, but a nanny took it upon herself to take apart my music stand, move it where I could not get to it, and throw out my music, so... there were some last-minute changes because I couldn't play the ukulele. But anyway, here it is. Next year, I'm seriously considering skipping the holiday theme. Let's hope I remember I said that!

  1. Great plan! I hadn't heard of Fa La La yet, so I've ordered it and hopefully can use it for next year.

So let me get this straight. She threw out your music?! Did she offer any sort of explanation? I don't know how I would even react in that situation.

    1. I have to say that Fa La La is not nearly as good as the non-holiday titles in that series. It has more words than the others, and the kids didn't like it as much. But compared to a lot of other holiday titles for this age, it's pretty good.

And yes. The music stand started to fall while I was singing I'm a Little Teapot, and I looked over my shoulder and thought she was going to set it back up again. Next thing I know, the song is over and the music stand is folded up and put on a table where I would have to climb over a bunch of people to get to it. The music fell on the floor. A little while later, she saw it, picked it up, and threw it out. I meant to catch her after story time and say something, but I lost track of her and didn't have a chance. My guess is that she never realized the music stand was mine, and she thought it was just some unsafe object left in the story room to fall on her kid. And I can't really stop story time in front of a crowd of one hundred people to address one person, so I just didn't. It was definitely the weirdest thing that has ever happened at story time.
