About

About Me

Welcome to Story Time Secrets! My name is Katie Fitzgerald, and I am a trained children's librarian, formerly of the Josephine-Louise Public Library and the DC Public Library. I am also the author of Story Time Success: A Practical Guide for Librarians (Rowman & Littlefield, 2016) and Successful Summer Reading Programs for All Ages: A Practical Guide for Librarians (Rowman & Littlefield, 2018). I live in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC with my academic librarian husband and five children  (daughters ages six, four, and two and newborn boy/girl twins), and I am currently a stay-at-home mom. This blog began in 2011 as a place to collect my story time plans, and has since grown to include book lists, literacy activities, and reflections on library service.

Review Policy

As of September 2016, I have stopped reviewing books at Story Time Secrets. Book reviews formerly published to this site have been moved to Read-at-Home Mom and my Goodreads account. I am no longer accepting review copies.

  1. Holy cow! Are you referring to the Josephine-Louise Public Library in Walden, NY? I spent my entire childhood there! So many wonderful memories.

    1. Yes! I grew up in Wallkill, and I worked at the library in Walden for about 3 years before moving to the Washington DC area. I still visit every time I'm in the area. It was a great place to work as a new librarian.

  2. Hello Katie! I love your blog. It is August 2020. We are in the middle of this pandemic. My colleagues and I have done story time on Facebook live but it is SO hard to do it without the children. This fall we are planning to take story time to the neighborhoods. We are working along with HOA to let us use their green spaces and such. You have been an inspiration. Thank you for all you do!
