Flannel Friday: How Much is that Doggie in the Window?

Today's #flannelfriday comes to you sans photos, because summer reading is taking over my life, and there hasn't been a spare minute for taking pictures.

But I did manage to find the clip art I used, so I'll give you that instead.

(Is this not the most adorable clip art dog in the world?)

How much is that doggie in the window?
The one with the waggily tail.
How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie's for sale.

How much is that doggie in the basket?
The one with the waggily tail.
How much is that doggie in the basket?
I do hope that doggie's for sale.

How much is that doggie in the wagon?
The one with the waggily tail.
How much is  that doggie in the wagon?
I do hope that doggie's for sale.

A pdf of the clip art, resized to the actual sizes I used on my flannel board is here. I was under the impression that this was a commonly known song, but as I mentioned after Baby/Toddler story time on Tuesday, that was not really the case. Just a word of warning - you might find yourself without backup singers!

Check out everyone else's Flannel Friday post at the round-up hosted by @molliekay.

  1. Placing the doggie in different locations is a great idea. The babies and toddlers will learn even more vocabulary that way.

I'm equally as surprised as you are that parents don't know the song. I thought everyone knew it too!

  2. Mollie - I was trying to think of more places to put him, but settled on three for now. I like mixing it up, both for the learning opportunities, and my own sanity!

A lot of the adults at my story times are nannies from other countries, so I think that contributes to some of it, but many of our American-born mommies and daddies didn't know the words either. Definitely surprising!

  3. I hear you about summer reading taking over your life! I love that you had the doggie in other items (instead of just the window) -- what a great way to extend the song!

  4. I also hear u about SRC TOYL... I spent 2 hours buying and finding storage for candy this morning. If I ever smell twizzlers again, it will be 2 soon! Anyway, what a super idea! so cute.
