Projects

While many of the posts on this blog are about randomly selected books and themes, some are also part of larger ongoing projects. These are linked and described below.

Cybils

I started participating in the Cybils (Children's and Young Adult Bloggers Literary Awards) in 2011. In 2011 and 2012, I served as a first-round panelist for Easy Readers and Early Chapter Books. After taking 2013 off, I returned in 2014 as the chair of the category, a position I held for two years. My posts about the Cybils can be found here. More information about the awards is available at Cybils.com.

Reading Through History 2015

In 2015, I challenged myself to read and review 52 historical fiction novels for kids. This project had several goals: to familiarize me with well-known books I had not yet read, to help me begin to prepare for future homeschooling lessons, and to broaden my reading horizons. Reviews for this project can be read in chronological order by setting through this index.

Fumbling Through Fantasy 2016

After the success of my 2015 history challenge, I decided to take on a slightly less ambitious challenge for 2016. I plan to read 25 fantasy novels during the year. The project is called "Fumbling through Fantasy" because I am not typically comfortable reading fantasy and I don't have as great a grip on the genre as I do of others. Click here to see my fantasy reviews so far.

Caldecott Challenge 2012

In 2012 and early 2013, I read nearly all of the Caldecott Medal and Honor books. My reviews can be found under the #nerdcott tag, as well as on this master list.

Religious Education Lessons

I teach CCD (Catholic Religious Education classes) at my parish. I have collected some of my lesson plans here on the blog in the hopes that they would be helpful to other catechists. I taught third grade for two years, and will follow my class to fourth grade beginning in September 2016.

Series Reading Projects

Throughout the history of this blog, I have occasionally taken on the challenge of reading and reviewing an entire series. See the complete list of reviews for each of these series by clicking their titles.
