I will listen, suggest resources, etc. but I don't give advice or get emotionally involved. As far little kids - hugs will be given upon request and yeah, I do call them "my" kids sometimes (mostly to people who are flabbergasted that I don't have kids of my own) and I'll do everything I can to protect and care for them, but they're not my kids or my students. I have reported clear cases of neglect and suspected abuse to CPS but not just because I disagree with how people parent! Anyways, like I've told the teens "I'm not your friend, I'm an authority figure." =DJenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096787155616041727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7691585110755964273.post-14343158936116016872016-07-03T12:45:04.050-04:002016-07-03T12:45:04.050-04:00Our official policy is no unattended children unde...Our official policy is no unattended children under 8. In reality, as long as you're behaving, you're fine. If a child is misbehaving, upset, or approaches me to ask where their parents are, I'll look through the building to try to reunite them and then yeah, the police will be called. If you're going to leave your child alone they need to at least be able to tell us a few basic details - their name, their parents' names, phone number, where they live, etc. If they can't do that, they're not ready to be out alone! (and yeah, that includes middle schoolers)Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05096787155616041727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7691585110755964273.post-27743600181992705562016-06-08T08:37:28.003-04:002016-06-08T08:37:28.003-04:00Free range parenting sounds a lot like what regula...Free range parenting sounds a lot like what regular parenting used to be. Except leaving children in the car. I traveled around with 4 under 5, and had a system involving either a stroller or shopping cart to get everyone across parking lots.
